About Matt Dooley

two guys in their car at night

I was in my early twenties when my buddies and I decided to go to Mexico to party. The next day, one of them suggested that we should buy steroids in Mexico and sell them in our area. We thought it was a good idea, so we did it.

However, things didn’t go as planned when we got to the border. The authorities pulled us over to search the vehicle, and I sat there in disbelief, thinking that we were going to get caught.  As I sat on the concrete divider, I looked over at my buddy and said, “Bro, we’re going to prison.” I did what anyone would do in that situation – I prayed.

It wasn’t an ordinary prayer. It was a desperate plea, but it also involved bargaining with God. I attempted to negotiate my way out of the current situation by saying…

“God, if you get me out of this situation, I promise I will turn my life around.

I’ll stop doing drugs, start going to church, and ditch my current friends.”

We were told we could leave, and as we drove away, we celebrated with high fives and muscle relaxers.

I forgot all the promises I had made to God.

Looking back, I realized a crucial truth: as humans, our promises and words are often unreliable, but God’s Word is eternal, and His promises are always true.

Christianity is not just about fulfilling promises we make to God. It is centered on God, who has made countless promises to us. All we need to do is believe in these promises and hold them close to our hearts.

As someone who has been preaching the Word for 17 years, I am confident that my work with Little Branches Publishing has the potential to make a significant impact for the kingdom of God.
